Recycle a Pair, Receive a Pair
GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY '24
VALID FROM 16—18 MARCH 2024*
WHAT IS GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY ABOUT?
Global Recycling Day, observed on March 18th, is a global initiative that raises awareness about the importance of recycling and its impact on the environment. In the spirit of this eco-conscious movement, companies and people around the world are stepping up to make a positive change.
WHY IS GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY IMPORTANT?
Global Recycling Day is not just a day on the calendar; it is a global movement encouraging individuals and businesses to rethink their waste habits and adopt more sustainable practices. The day serves as a reminder that every action counts in the collective effort to preserve our planet. Recycling reduces the strain on natural resources, minimizes pollution, and helps combat climate change.
HOW WE’RE CELEBRATING GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
As consumers, our choices matter. By opting for more sustainable products and supporting responsible practices, we contribute to a more sustainable future. The collective impact of individual choices can drive positive change, and initiatives like Global Recycling Day remind us of our role in creating a healthier planet.
WHAT ELSE IS FRANKIE4 DOING TO STEP UP?
Around the world, only 1% of shoes are recycled. We’re committed to keeping shoes out of landfill, which is why we’ve partnered with local recycling company Ridwell. So far through our total global initiatives, we’ve saved over 20,000 pairs of shoes from landfill.
Our responsible practices don’t stop there, here’s just a few other ways in which we step up every day:
-
Our sneakers produced from March 2023 onwards include shoelaces made from recycled cotton.
-
We’re members of the Leather Working Group (LWG), the world’s leading responsible leather organisation. These tanneries have strict practices in place for water recycling, energy efficiency, and safe chemical management.
-
. Across our range, we upcycle materials that become part of our styles. For instance, the footbeds of many our slides are crafted using rice husk—a byproduct of agriculture waste. We also utilize a fabric known as rPET for the lining of the forefoot, which is produced from recycled PET plastic. Through these efforts we've prevented approximately 1,000,000 post-consumer waste plastic bottles from ending up in landfills.
-
When it comes to plastics waste, for our styles produced from March 2023 onwards, we’ve eliminated the use of single use plastics from packaging. Our shoeboxes, filler paper, and printed wrapping are produced from recycled materials—and are also chosen to be curbside recyclable to reduce the amount of waste.
-
Manufacturing processes and our supply chain are also considered. Our footwear supplier aims to minimize waste through considered sourcing practices, and they report on purchased materials annually, with any excess raw materials like leathers, trims, and soles repurposed for the production of our pairs.
-
We also have a number of exciting projects in-flight that we can’t wait to share with you.
