Good Design Awards 2026
The recognition is for our work with the Queensland University of Technology: an independent research study of 29 women experiencing plantar heel pain, designed to measure what actually happens under the foot, when wearing 6 different combinations of footbed and shoe. Sensors inside the shoe mapped pressure, and a force plate measured impact as the foot landed. As part of the lab data, every participant rated how comfortable each test condition felt to wear.
It captured biomechanical data and women's own comfort ratings together, and it did so in a lifestyle sneaker, Jackie, rather than a sports shoe, where the majority of research to date is done.
The findings confirmed something we had long held to be true: the shoe and the footbed work together as a system. The Sole Hero® Footbed took load off the heel without simply shifting it to the arch to create pressure elsewhere, and the headline result was up to 67% better comfort at the heel strike compared to the other combinations being tested.*
