CHOOSING TO PARTNER
WITH RIDWELL

THE PROBLEM

Millions of shoes end up in landfill each year. These shoes contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and pollution by emitting chemicals into the soil and groundwater.

To protect our planet, we must reduce emissions in line with the 1.5C pathway outlined in the Paris Agreement and minimize negative impacts on biodiversity.

OUR SOLUTION

We partnered with Ridwell in 2022 with our brand pillars in mind—doing right by our planet and by our loyal community. We want you to feel as great about the next steps your treasured pairs take as you did while wearing them.

The shoes you donate will be recycled by local partners dedicated to wasting less and creating a brighter future for fashion.

GOT MORE QUESTIONS?

CAN I RECYCLE SHOES THAT AREN’T FRANKIE4S?

Yes—we accept all brands of shoes to recycle, not just your well-used, favorite pairs of FRANKIE4s.

WHY SHOULD I RECYCLE MY SHOES?

Approximately 300 million pairs of shoes end up in American landfills every year, taking decades to decompose and leaving behind plastics and toxic chemicals that pollute our planet. Landfills produce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change, and negatively affect our flora and fauna in numerous ways.

Sowhat’s the alternative?

Recycling shoes is a challenging task, and there’s only a few providers in the world that can do it well. As this is a global issue, we’ve partnered with Ridwell right here in the US, and TreadLightly and recycler Save our Soles (SOS) in Australia.

HOW CAN I RECYCLE MY SHOES?

Visit us in-store and simply place your shoes in our collection bin.

We have a new, temporary pop-up store located in Bellevue Square (near Fireworks), Seattle. In the meanwhile, while our permanent store is underway, we’d be happy to assist you at this location.

CAN I BRING IN OTHER ITEMS, LIKE BAGS OR WALLETS?

Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept any items other than shoes currently. If you have clothing, bags, or jewelry that can be reused, we recommend selling your items on Facebook Marketplace or Depop. We’ll let you know if we start accepting other items in the future.

I HAVE SOME FLUFFY SLIPPERS. CAN I RECYCLE THOSE?

Our recycling partner can process most kinds of shoes—except completely fluffy slippers. Other styles including slides, sandals, sneakers, boots, flats, and heels can be recycled. Styles with a shearling lining can be recycled, too.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE MY SHOES ARE RECYCLED?

Shoes are recycled by Ridwell, who only work with domestic recycling partners that they’ve carefully vetted. So, you can rest assured knowing your well-loved shoes are going to the right places and staying out of landfill. Stay tuned for more information about how your pairs are down-cycled and reused across other industries.

CAN I STILL RECYCLE MY SHOES IF I DON’T LIVE NEAR YOUR SEATTLE STORE?

Currently, we accept shoes for recycling in-store only. Visit us at our new, temporary pop-up store located in Bellevue Square (near Fireworks), Seattle. In the meanwhile, while our permanent store is underway, we’d be happy to assist you at this location. As soon as we have any developments or can accept other delivery methods, we will keep you updated.
